It's all very well and good giving yourself seven days to spend in
Edinburgh but if you don't spend those seven days properly, you'll
leave without having seen some of the most iconic architecture and
most talked about tourist destinations in the world. To help you avoid
missing out, we've created the ultimate 7 day itinerary in Edinburgh
to ensure you see absolutely everything there is to see in this
amazing city. Here's your 7 day guide!
7 Amazing Days In Edinburgh
First day in Edinburgh
Day 1 Monday - There are so many ways to take in this wonderful
city, hopping on open top buses or whizzing around from destination
to destination in hire cars but at Blubale, one of the best ways to
start your exploration of Edinburgh is to get around on foot. There
are numerous walking tours to take advantage of or better still,
take advantage of our very own
Free Tour of Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a city guaranteed to impress, providing you do it in
the right way.
In our guided walk, you'll begin enjoying the alleyways or 'closes'
as they're known along the Royal Mile.
You'll then head toward St Giles Cathedral where we'll talk you
through the stunning architecture and its religious background. In
our tour of Edinburgh, we'll also talk to you about the history of
the most important festival in the world, the beautiful Victoria St
as well as Grassmarket Square and of course the traditions we all
want to find out more about…Haggis. You'll see Greyfriars Cemetery,
the National museum and so much more.
Second day in Edinburgh
Day 2 Tuesday - On Day 2, it's time to take things up a notch so we
suggest finding out more about the medieval architecture at
Edinburgh Castle
specifically. This is one of the most famous castles in the world,
not to mention one of the most beautiful attractions in this lovely
city. Sat atop the Castle Rock, you'll see some of the most
beautiful views of Edinburgh from this location too.
Whether you choose to explore further or simply enter the gates, the
choice is yours, as is whether you explore alone or via a tour
guide. We always
recommend tour guides however, to ensure
you get the right information while you're there.
Day 3 in Edinburgh
Day 3 Wednesday - Check out the road to the
Isle of Skye. The road to the Isles is a fantastic road trip for a number of
reasons, not only do you get to take in sights such as the Jacobite
Steam Train, but you also get to see some of the most beautiful and
natural views around. From Glenfinnan Monument to the famous smaller
isles of Rum, Eigg, Canna and Muck; when you go to see the Isle Of
Skye, you also get to see so much more too.
Check out the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale for some of the best
views possible and once you've arrived at Skye, check out the Fairy
Pools. You'll find the Fairy Pools at Glenbrittle, which make for a
great walk underneath the peaks of the Cuillins Mountain Range.
While you're there, jump on a boat and take a tour of some of the
more remote lochs such as Loch Coruisk or even visit the Talisker
Whisky Distillery in Carbost. The Isle of Skye however, requires
more than one day.
Day 4 in Edinburgh
Day 4 Thursday - To really appreciate this part of Edinburgh, we
suggest spending a second day at least in the Isle of Skye so you
don't miss some of the must sees such as the Old Man of Storr,
Dunvegan Castle or even the lighthouse Neist Point.
There's so much to see and do in this part of the world that the
earlier you get up and start your day, the better. Dunvegan Castle
for instance is often left out of the more commercial itineraries
but here at Blubale, we think it's an absolute must see if only for
the beautiful landscaping and surrounding wildlife. You may even get
to catch a glimpse of the local seal colony.
Day 5 in Edinburgh
Day 5 Friday - They always say that places change in the dark and
Edinburgh is no exception which is why we offer our incredible
Edinburgh Ghost Tour. Edinburgh is so special and this doesn't go unnoticed, nor does
its rather gothic appearance at times. See this in the dark however
and you'll witness first hand just how much this beautiful city
changes before your eyes.
See and feel its strange spooky touch, take in the grey buildings
and the gothic atmosphere, the cemeteries telling some of the most
sinister stories to the raw history you'll find in each and every
architectural decision. Enjoy the dark atmosphere of the city with
us at Blubale.
Day 6 in Edinburgh
Day 6 Saturday - What would a visit to Edinburgh be without a little
Harry Potter indulgence? Every Saturday at midday, we offer
incredible Harry Potter inspired tours where you get to indulge in
not only the world of Harry Potter, but the world of the creator
too, J K Rowling. During our
Harry Potter Tours, you'll get to see the grave of one of the most beloved teachers,
from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, you'll also get
to see Diagon Alley as well as indulge in a Quidditch match too.
Want to get to know the author more? Then check out the coffee shop
in which she really wrote her very first book. Take pictures at the
city hall of Edinburgh, the tomb of the worst poet in the history of
Scotland and even catch a glimpse of one of the most expensive
private schools in the country.
Day 7 in Edinburgh
Day 7 Sunday - while we could give you yet more things to do, we
always think it's a good idea to take a day for yourself. Whether
you wander back to your favourite part of the city or simply head to
another destination entirely; the choice is yours but what we do
know is that whatever you choose to do, with this 7 day plan, you'll
have seen just about everything there is to see of one of the most
beautiful cities in the world.
