In the free walking tour around Edinburgh's Old Town, you will start the tour at the Royal Mile, near the famous Edinburgh Castle. You will join our expert guide to see and discover the history of the city centre while you visit the best places around the Old Town.
Get to know the famous inhabitants Edinburgh had and how the likes of Adam Smith or David Hume, among others, shaped the city. Every corner of the Old Town has its own unique history, even the pubs! From places that inspired Harry Potter to the square where public executions used to happen, you will be able to see it all in the free Edinburgh tour.
You will also visit one of the most beautiful closes in the Royal Mile (closes are little alleys that populate Edinburgh's Old Town). There are dozens of them, and the guide will take you to a few during the free walking tour, but feel free to ask for recommendations after the walk!
Along with the history of Scotland and Edinburgh, you will get to know other cultural and good to know information, such as where to eat or drink.
One last thing, the free walking tour of Edinburgh lasts approximately 2 hours, so we won't be able to cover all the history of Scotland in that time! But if you have a certain story or question about Edinburgh, please, ask our guide! They will probably be able to help you.

Julie is a very lovely guide. The other people did not show up, so I ended up getting a private tour. This gave me the perfect opportunity to ask all the burning questions I had. In the tour we explored some of the most interesting closes and got to know the history behind them and the people that lived in them. We also dropped by some of the lesser known places and she very kindly gave her insight in the places from the viewpoint of a local. I definitely recommend this tour if you want to delve a bit deeper into the history of the entire Royal Mile.
We had an absolutely lovely tour with Julie! We learned some really interesting history and stories of Edinburgh and really got a feel for the city. Julie was a wealth of information and knew her stuff, answering every question we had. I highly suggest taking her tour!
The free tour was very interesting and funny. Our tour guide Fraser loves his job and that made the difference.
